David Barth is a thirteen year-old boy with autism from the Netherlands. He has been drawing for his entire life, mostly incredibly detailed illustrations of animals. In his drawing, ‘birds’, there are almost 400 different species of birds. And he knows the Latin names of most of them.
These imprints of birds on English windows are strangely beautiful. Apparently, the ‘powder down’ of their wings causes the ghostly imaging. The snapshots themselves are unspectacular, but the idea of nature leaving such a haunting calling card is truly remarkable.
This might have been happening for a while now on the Internet, but it still puts a smile on my face every time I look at them. As far as I’m concerned, it all started on a forum thread in 2008, but people keep uploading more and more pictures everyday. You’ve got to love them.
Joshua Durant offers are a real breath of fresh air when it comes to bird paintings. His paintings present an expressionistic series of birds in which they appear to be exploding or dispersing into space and capture beautifully the birds’ momentum and liberation of energy.
I find it remarkable that each of these wall-hanging trays feature a bird’s head on a human body and appears to be enjoying the finer things in life. When the human race is wiped out, it’s certain that birds will rule the world.
