Wow, this is too cool for words. At the New College Nottingham in England, you can headbang your way to a degree in heavy metal. To be specific, if you enroll in the Heavy Metal Music Performance degree — it’s a full time course, mind you, heavy metal demands nothing less than guts, blood, sweat and round-the-clock commitment — you will learn how to market yourself, work on your on-stage performance, get a good footing on the history of heavy metal, and more.

The three-year foundation degree course commences in September 2013 and will be awarded by Nottingham Trent University, with a one-year BA top-up thereafter for those who want to be thoroughly qualified for a career in heavy metal with the full degree.

Italian photographer Rä di Martino took these amazing pictures of abandoned Star Wars film sets in Tunisia. Using Google Earth, she effectively tracked down decades-old locations such as Luke Skywalker’s Tatooine dome home, the Lars Homestead, for a number of photographic projects. As she observed on her website, “Some of it have now become ruins, almost as some sort strange archeological sites. The particular hot and dry climate has helped maintain intact many parts of the sets, or buried under the sand just sections of it.”

That includes a flask. That’s right — if you pledge $29 towards their Kickstarter fund, you’ll get to snare a pair of Speakeasy Briefs and a flask and (to quote these guys) “bring the party to your pecker”.

What Marco Mazzoni can do with coloured pencils on a moleskine sketchbook is pretty amazing. The Modenese artist has a taste for delicate, very detailed renders and intricate compositions of small animals and mystical women. In his women portrait series, he chooses not to paint the eyes, which he sees as a distraction, thus infusing an hypnotical and mysterious atmosphere to his work. Blending mystical Italian folklore, medicinal flora and symbolic fauna with delicate femininity, he creates ghostly characters and images that are full of hidden meaning.

Do you have trouble making yourself appreciate classic art? Then these photoshopped paintings of modern celebrities are a great way to slowly ease yourself into something more classy. Wether we’ll admit it or not, most of us enjoy a good gossip magazine. So why not convince yourself that classic art is just as entertaining. Flip through some of these portraits and keep an eye out for the likes of Christian Bale, Jennifer Aniston, Amy Winehouse, Steve Carell, and more.

Who knows? Maybe you’ll decide you like classic art and give some of the real stuff a try. And you can thank the people of Worth1000 Galleries for that.

Despite the recent fascination with everything cats, I don’t like felines. I don’t care if Twitter made an alternate cat version that’s super cute. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I’m allergic to the little fur-balls and don’t enjoy their obnoxious memes. So when I came across this bizarre ad series by the Japanese company Tange and Nakimushi Peanuts, I was greatly disturbed. How could anyone even think of letting a cat rub its furry body all over their sushi? This is wrong on so many levels.

And not only does she still party, she also loves mowing her lawn and dancing. What’s the secret to this great-grandmother’s good health? Bacon. Despite the negative health-effects typically associated with the fatty meat, she claims that bacon has given her longevity and great health. Oscar Mayer loved her story so much that they sent the Wienermobil to her door with a special bacon delivery.

Check out this collection of the best global street art from 2012. Where I walk past a staircase, window or pipe and see nothing particularly interesting, these artists see opportunity for creation. The way they use the environment of the street as a canvas for such compelling art work never ceases to amaze me.
Check out this collection of the best global street art from 2012. Where I walk past a staircase, window or pipe and see nothing particularly interesting, these artists see opportunity for creation. The way they use the environment of the street as a canvas for such compelling art work never ceases to amaze me. My personal favourite is a piece by Pavel Puhov, who takes advantage of a street lamp to add depth to a pair of spectacles.
