I was just thinking about how I want to really retain big, sweeping brushstrokes in my paintings, even while trying to achieve depth and detail, when I stumbled across the work of Sander van Deurzen, which is truly inspiring.

I love the contrasts between the big blank fields of color and the whispy detailed and patterned parts of Catherine Ryan’s paintings. They give her work a luminous quality.
