Barbara Trentalange’s music is a balance between raw power, vulnerability, early heavy metal and disco beats. Her new release, Awakening, Level One, sonically shoots into outer space, drawing from influences as diverse as Black Sabbath, Massive Attack and Blondie. I’m a fan of the mixed media paintings by Brooklyn-based artist Carrie Moyer : they range from abstract composition to more topical and symbol driven pieces. Read more
These photographs are so good I bought the book. I discovered Merkley??? on Flickr. This bearded photographer is a slightly unnerving straight-talking San Franciscan whose images of friends (mainly wannabe models) push the boundaries of symmetry, skin tone, colour and pleasure to the very limits.

Paintings from Nicholas Aoki’s new solo exhibition, Goodnight; Sweet, Hearts blur two worlds — one of mortals and one of Gods, skeletons and creature spirits. The Toronto-based Aoki uses watercolors and acrylics to create rich landscapes that he layers with the characters in this journey to death. And while the paintings contain a dark subject matter, they also contain flashes of light — a glowing full moon, say, or lamp posts helping guide the way.
