For top quality it’s always best to go to the source, and that’s why the Mountain Goat Brewery in Melbourne’s Richmond is a gem. The bar is actually in the brewery, the selection is extensive, and there’s something enriching about downing the product surrounded by the means of production. The bar staff are some of the friendliest around and also make delicious pizzas. If you see the beer on tap try it out, but make it to the bar if and when you can. The only drawback is that this place is only open from 5pm each Friday.
If you want to give your loved one something very different this Valentines Day, then you could do worse than paying a visit to the UK-based Queen of Cake Cool, Lily Vanilli and her scarily realistic anatomical heart beauties, complete with delicious blackcurrant and cherry blood.
Austin-based photographer William Hundley loves juxtaposing completely absurd and unrelated objects. Whether it’s fabric-draped people in mid jump or chihuahuas and Easter Island heads standing on cheeseburgers, Hundley takes an almost Dadaist joy in making random, giddily puzzling images. Read more

As a non-coffee drinker, I’m not going to rant about the coffee. I’ve heard, though, that the coffee is damn good. But I am going to talk about something else: food. Oh. My. God. Sydney’s Single Origin cafe have this awesome meatloaf sandwich and a raft of sourdoughs and prosciutto and roast lamb and chevre and chunky steak pies and yogurt with compote and four-cheese toasties and baked beans and … oh! Don’t forget Karlie’s special homemade lemonade! Karlie is always in the house so you know that it doesn’t come from a can and arrives at your table with that sour tang that reminds you of the annual Royal Easter Show. Originally hailing from Kendal, Cumbria and now based in Leeds, the Wild Beasts foursome are the next hopefuls for Domino Records, who sent the group out to Sweden to record their first album, Limbo, Panto, released on June the 16th. The new single — The Devil’s Crayon — shimmers in wide-screen around a sense of location, melody and wonder at the scale of things. Indeed, it sounds like the theme song to a new kind of very English road movie.
