I didn’t know there were any sign painters still out there practicing their tedious art. But then I stumbled across TJ Guzzardi. This guy is keeping the magic of old school sign painting alive and kicking in Melbourne. And he’s doing it in style. Look at this guy. From his fantastic mustache to the vintage blue jean jacket, this is the man I would choose to design and paint a new logo for my brewing company. And then I’d ask him to come hang out and have a beer.

Pinching pennies anywhere possible with your wedding plans? It looks like this crafty Aussie bride was, too. She made this couture wedding dress for just $36. How is this possible? Stephanie Watson and her sweetie collected over 10,000 bread clips. And those little red, white and yellow pieces of plastic worked as lovely scale pieces to embroider her dress with. The resulting effect was a 15 pound, stunning scale-covered gown.

Sydney-based artist Lexi Land is known to be as mysterious as she is revealing. Recently opening an exhibition at Leonard Mattis Studio in Surry Hills (the location of our recent Sydney party), Lexi Land is making a mark in the art world with her self-reflective, mixed media works.

Pieces of Me is a series of eight works; mixed media with a poetic accompaniment. The series are said to be self-portraits born from a personal dreamscape; dark, revealing and organic, conveying the maximum intensity of human expression through self-examination and exposure. Check out some of our favourite pieces below.

What do you get if you take an architect and a classic ballerina? A Body Architect. That’s the official title of Lucy McRae, an Australian girl trained in both fields, who invents and builds structures on the skin that re-shape the human silhouette.

Swedish pop artist Robyn is a huge fan, and has tapped into McRae’s unusual talent to create the architectural fashion statement made in her Indestructible video clip [watch above]. The tubes of flowing coloured liquid wrapped around Robyn’s body make for a super impressive form of armor.

This isn’t the first time Robyn has used McRae’s help on a project: the dress (that word is being used very loosely) worn on Robyn’s Body Talk album cover is also a product of McRae’s talent.

But when you’re living in hostels and greyhound stations, the reality is that mostly the only time you’re alone is on the toilet. I still haven’t found myself.
