We got the inside word from Augie March’s Dave Williams on the eight songs that are inspiring him, and the band, at the moment, for our sister site, My Secret Playlist. He started off by propping the Animal Collective song, In The Flowers: ‘I love how these dudes mash up folksy harmonic progressions and melodies performed on traditional rock instruments with everything-bar-the-kitchen sink cut and paste rhythm tracks, incidental and found sounds, field recordings, and more. By no means are they the first to do this but, damn, they do it well. And with tonnes of heart’. Named as one of the 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide by Lürzer’s Archive, Carson Ting works as an advertising art director by day where he has won numerous international and national advertising awards for brands such as Sony, Lexus, Vespa, Goodyear and Dunlop. Caught The Dust Dive the other night at Glasslands. They’re a bunch of hippies, but even I have to admit, they’re atmospheric live show – consisting of violin, gently strummed guitar, a few piano and sampler twinkles here and there, and sound samples from the found footage projected behind the band – is really powerful, like the warm rush of fond memories that hits you an instant before the mushroom cloud annihilates everything. Frontman Bryan Zimmerman even plays the musical saw, and you really can’t argue with that.

Skagen are a Danish-born design company based out of Nevada with an innovative and clean approach to their work. Their trademark product is this titanium mesh watch, which I’ve worn with pride for years. But they also produce different models of sunglasses and jewellery. When so many products these days offer extra gimmicks and weigh you down by their size, Skagen strip it all back and, in doing so, hoist themselves far above the pack.
