Om Records are turning the big fifteen and to celebrate they’re going to release the double disc, Om:15 album, featuring exclusive tracks from Radio Slave, Charles Webster, Crazy P, Atjazz, Fish Go Deep, John Beltran and more. The art on the record was done in collaboration with urban street artist, Sam Flores of Upper Playground, and full versions of the design will also be available in a limited high quality 18″x24″ digital print. San Francisco-based painter Kevin Taylor’s art can be perceived as both dark and ominous, or quirky and lighthearted — depending on your mood. His otherworldly paintings manage to tell stories without fitting to any narrative mould, inspiring a certain amount of imagination in the viewer. Looking at them, they remind me of childhood story illustrations, on crack.

Named after the first openly gay politician in US history, Harvey Milk make some rather testosterone-heavy tunes. While appealing mostly to the stoner-rock and indie-metal set, the quintet from Athens, Georgia, aren’t afraid of a little melody, as the almost pop track Motown on their latest album, Life … the Best Game in Town, proves. But more often than not, the band gets down and dirty with some knuckle-dragging sludge rock. Amid the haze of searing guitar squeals, menacing power chords, and seismic bass rumbling, though, are some almost math-rock flourishes that hint at the brains behind the brawn.
