1 million residents of Beijing are living underground as part of the ‘Rat Tribe’

Beijing might be known for its high rise buildings and millions of residents but below this enormous city you’ll find an underground world that’s home to around 1 million residents. Located in basements and former air-raid bunkers, these windowless rooms are home to people who can’t find ordinary accommodations above ground, or who are trying to save money in the big city.

Rice is pretty amazing. It’s the staple food of over half the world’s population and provides 20% of the world’s dietary energy supply. Not to mention making burritos all the more tastier! Many of us have probably seen a rice field-in person or in photos-and not given the landscape a second thought.
