There’s a wonderful sense of symmetry amongst the sharp lines and clean, crips graphics of Sydney-based designer, Andrew Fairclough’s work. His clients are generally US and Canadian, for whom he works on everything from snowboard graphics and advertising, to exhibition design and branding.
There’s been an interesting trend recently in print and advertising work in particular away from the perfect symmetry and airbrushed cleanliness of vector art and back towards a looser form of hand-drawn illustration. I see it everywhere, from the middle pages of highbrow pop culture publications to the style sections of local broadsheets. And yet, it’s unexpected, especially so soon after the wave of vector art which swamped the print world just a few years back.
George Lois is the god of good ideas, or at least one of them. When I am stuck on ideas, I pray to George the God, or look through his works in hope of doing something one hundredth as good as his work.
