We got the inside word from Augie March’s Dave Williams on the eight songs that are inspiring him, and the band, at the moment, for our sister site, My Secret Playlist. He started off by propping the Animal Collective song, In The Flowers: ‘I love how these dudes mash up folksy harmonic progressions and melodies performed on traditional rock instruments with everything-bar-the-kitchen sink cut and paste rhythm tracks, incidental and found sounds, field recordings, and more. By no means are they the first to do this but, damn, they do it well. And with tonnes of heart’. Read the rest of Augie March’s Secret Playlist, along with other Playlists by The B52s, Moby, Donna Summer, and others.

Same same, but different! In the 1940s, American manufacturing company Emeco brought the world a design legend in their virtually indestructible aluminum Navy chairs. While the originals were once just standard décor on US Naval destroyers and submarines, the new millennium incarnations are now in demand for furbishing more chic establishments on dry land. It seems Kermit and Terry are the perfect work partners: they’ve even released a video clip documenting the shoot.

Stylistically The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is hard to pin down, except to say that they throw one hell of a party – which may be why those music-loving folks at Apple chose them to help sell what’s being touted as ‘the funnest iPod ever’. Sun-drenched pop melodies collide with Technicolor dreams, anchored by the band’s shared love of the classic soul stylings of Marvin, Stevie and Sly that can be heard in the horns snaking through Around The Bend, as well as the slinky The Sun Ain’t Shining No More [below], the Thomas Gold remix of which we have available for free download in the Music Download section of Lost At E Minor [psst, it's in the third column], along with a stack of other cool tunes. Get those iPods ‘a thumpin’!

These scarves designed by Sarah Swash and her boyfriend Toshio Yamanaka always feature their whippet and play on a sense of urban sophistication inspired by the surrounds of their East London studio. Definitely a justified indulgence.
