Wandering through the website of Barcelona illustrator Adria Fruitos, the first image I stumble across is of an enormous angry bear on a rampage, with tiny blood smeared policemen strewn across his path. It’s pretty funny, I swear! Not to mention lovely. If you don’t believe me, have a gander yourself.
What would it take to ensnare a Williamsburg hipster? Not much, by the looks of it. Jeff Greenspan and Hunter Fine have set up a series of Hipster Traps in Manhattan and Brooklyn, with some sure-fire lures to entice even the most wary of tattooed baristas. The bait? A Holga 120N camera, some fluoro sunglasses, a yellow bicycle chain, a can of PBR, and a pack of American Spirits. Damn, I’m getting tempted myself. Read more
Like It, Stamp It! This new, Instagram-style Iphone app allows you to give a ‘stamp of approval’ to the things you like and share it instantly. In doing so, it avoids the confusion you can experience with 1 to 5 star ratings, which can sometimes be hard to figure out. Brilliant!

While Flushing is still the place to go for the best Chinese food in New York City, those for whom the hour-long subway ride on the 7 is simply out of the question on most nights can now get their mapo tofu fix right in Manhattan. While the masses queue out the door at Joe’s Shanghai across the street, Famous Sichuan offers real-deal Sichuanese food such as cold sliced beef tendon in chili sauce, braised fish fillet with napa cabbage and roasted chili, and the most delicious cumin lamb this side of the East River. Chicago’s Cheer Accident started as a post-no-wave weirdo band typical of the Skin Graft roster, but of late, they’ve been doing some unrestrained pop and rock. They even have harmonized vocals and an occasional horn. This isn’t to say they’re commercializing – their songs are just as complex as ever, and there’s still a hint of discordance beneath the shimmering new sound.
