A Letter A Day is a cool blog on which designer Jaime Van Wart posts a new hand-drawn font or single character every day.
German artist and programmer Florian Kuhlmann designs spectacular, symmetrical collages that overflow with innumerable objects, intricate details and vivid gradients. Sometimes it can take Kuhlmann several months to make one single collage.
Oh, this is fun: ‘Art-o-mat machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend art. There are over 90 active machines in various locations throughout America’ selling works from 400 contributing artists from 10 different countries. Finally, a positive use for those evil floggers of nicotine.
Australian group Pivot have recently signed with the mighty Warp label and — even better (well, for us anyway) — have written a fun Secret Playlist for us. You can see where the many disparate influences have seeped into their latest recording, the beautiful and colourful, O Soundtrack My Heart.
No, this is not a still from a Dr Who episode. It is, instead, the facade of the Wotruba Church, built between 1974 and 1976 and located in the beautiful Austrian suburb of Mauer, the 23rd district of Vienna. Pitched as ‘Ulterior Motives in Contemporary Art’, Disorder Disorder is running until November 14 at Penrith Regional Gallery. It’ll be well worth the trip out west of Sydney: the Australian, Japanese, American and European cast reads like a warriors of street art roundup and includes Mike Giant, Ed Templeton, Anthony Lister [artwork above], Ozzie Wright, and Jonathan Zawada.
