The Fellows and the Blondies is Kate McCarthy’s new exhibition. McCarthy uses childhood memories and child-like spontaneity to create her painterly painted pieces. She mentions the 1970s series of Sesame Street among her influences.
Did you have the Australian Women’s Weekly Childrens Birthday Cake Book as a kid. I did. It was the one book that me and my sisters would fight over as kids. We liked looking at the pictures and dreaming of the day when we could get mum to whip one up for our birthdays. Baking and Painting are two of my favourite things. I have been baking and painting my way towards my next solo show titled “Tarts and Flours” an exhibition about, guess what, baking. Opens September 17 at 19Karen Gallery in Queensland and runs until October 8.
