When Vans call you and ask you to design your own model, it’s the kind of offer you can’t refuse. Dimitri Coste is a Vans-a-holic, a renowned photographer, an awarded motorbike racer, an advertising director, a father of two, and also a Vans advocate, alongside people like Mr. Cartoon and Eric Elms. He’s also a good friend who finds it hard to answer emails, but will undoubtedly invite you to one of his tasty barbecues in his nice house. If you’re cool enough.

Every once in a while in this great city of New York, you happen upon a moment that stops the streets from buzzing and your square peg suddenly finds its square hole of the universe. I first came across Twin Ghost Dog Howl waiting for the subway late one night. They recently sent me their new unreleased project.

On March 15, Austria’s Felix Baumgartner jumped out of a space capsule from an altitude of approximately 71,580 feet as the Red Bull Stratos project moved forward into the manned flight stage in New Mexico. The 42 year-old rode the space capsule attached to a giant helium balloon above the so-called Armstrong Line. The goal of the Red Bull Stratos project is to see Baumgartner attempt a record-breaking freefall from 120,000 feet this summer, where he’ll potentially become the first man to go supersonic without the support of a vehicle.

With over 34 million views on YouTube in less than a month, this video has become a huge success. To launch the high quality TV channel, TNT, in Belgium, they placed a big red push button on an average Flemish square of an average Flemish town. A sign with the text «Push to add drama» invited people to use the button. Watch on to see what happened.

I came across Natalie Coleman’s fashion range a few months ago. This video was the first thing I saw and I immediately knew I’d found something special. All The Jewelry I Never Got is the name of Coleman’s 2012 SS collection, and let me tell you, this is a really fresh and edgy collection.

I know it’s clichéd writing about Nicki Minaj, but I actually found something cool and I bet you haven’t seen it yet. In the video above, Minaj is talking about being a hardworking woman and having a career. Finally not one of those stupid interviews; it is something real, something worth watching and listening to.

Jello Biafra’s video talks about DeWeaver’s ‘artistic anti-corporate stance’ can be seen on YouTube. ’I believe that one of the reasons is that these civilizations are socially addicted to ideologies, and at this moment in our history we have found ourselves in the embrace of a very powerful and dominant ideology, that being Corporatism James DeWeaver. Here is the full article on DeWeaver’s take on the Occupy Movement.

This song for me is inspirational in two ways:- the actual live performance and the song itself. The song had never been played before. The guys that were playing together hadn’t met before and had only known each other for two hours. They managed to create a musical vibe and a beautiful song that made the audience and the two performers interlock in this musical whirlwind.

I first found out about Larry Carlson by somehow stumbling onto one of his videos, The Bornless Spirit. After seven and a half minutes, I couldn’t remember if I was sober or not. A schizophrenic epileptic nightmare or a techno-shaman’s wet dream, Carlson compiles obscure soundbites and visuals and transforms the viewer into a Nintendo on DMT.

Guy with guyliner, ‘tache, beard and hobo hair goes on a wild snip hunt for a barber, only to end up with an un-barber in this slightly macabre stop-motion gem by director Cody Stokes that’s bright as popsicles. That walk though makes us thirst for another round of Monty Python’s Ministry of Silly Walks.

This music video just blew my mind and I couldn’t stop playing it on loop when I first stumbled upon it. It was created via a collaboration between California-based motion and graphic designer, Patches, and producer, sound arts enthusiast, Jimmy Fontana. Hunting Tigers is a great mixture between absurdity and humor.

Our companies, Muckraker and Ravacon, set out to make an original fairytale puppet music video to the unique psychedelic rock of Starlight Girls. The song, Flutterby, lent itself to a Peter and the Wolf-inspired scored story, as classical instruments like clarinet and flute accompany the band’s whimsical lyrics. I was pleased to direct this marionette and rod puppet fable utilizing the technology of computers, while using original puppets and sets, reminiscent of films I loved growing up and still do.

Interior design website, Apartment Therapy, just posted some amazing pictures of ’70s rock stars in their parents’ homes. My favorite is of David Crosby and his dad [below]. The two look so completely opposite of each other that it’s hard to believe that it’s Crosby’s real dad. They also look like they’re barely concealing the contempt they have for each other. Crosby’s father was an Academy-Award-winning cinematographer who shot Tabu and High Noon, amongst other well-known films. Read more
Concept albums have always been a hit or miss affair, all too often to be taken with a pinch of salt. Some work brilliantly; many fall flat on their esoteric face. Dr John’s response to Hurricane Katrina is an intriguing album. Some is rousing, some depressing: it’s littered with political statements, perhaps too much at times but given it’s purpose the over-saturation isn’t surprising. Read more
