Illustrator, sculptor, and mixed media artist Joseph Franz creates stunning and unexpected pieces centered on personal nostalgia and animals. His work is ever-changing, but the wildlife and reminiscent narrative seem to be ever-present.

Franz’s illustrations have evolved from animals interacting with obsolete scientific and exploration items, to more intimate portraits of animals wearing Luchador masks. What we love best is how Franz allows his animal subjects to be viewed outside how they would in the real world. 3Three of his original mixed-media pieces are currently being featured in the Lost At E Minor store.

Set up in 2011, Rebel Unlit is a printing collaboration between London based Artists Neil Butler and Shanney Mulcahy. They make short run screen-printed t-shirts and limited edition prints from their studio in East London. All the t shirts are fair traded and printed by hand and, as a result, each one is unique.

Rebel Unlit groups its collaborative endeavours under the name PK Party. The first collaboration is a t shirt designed with artist Claire Douglass, adapted from her interactive installation The Great Beard of Joy. Inspired by the aesthetics of architecture and graphic design, FAQ Clothing has a post-modern approach to design. Each collection is based on a conceptual theme: ranging from vintage comics to lunar phases. FAQ works with no boundaries, nor rules, which makes for a compelling line. In 2008, graphic designer Becky Edgington and illustrator Sarah Beetson created two limited-edition packs of playing cards featuring images from Beetson’s exhibition, 50 Bucks: Bring On The Sluts. The images were selected from almost 500 small artworks created on moleskine paper, inspired by vintage pornography and a trip to Japan.

Pepsicola donated a vending machine which Beetson customized with illustrations and adjusted to vend the artworks in a Pepsi bottle at $50 a pop. The exhibition was a great success, touring Melbourne, London, Portland and New York, and by the time the exhibition run was over all of the original playing cards were sold.

Ever since then, people have been requesting new packs of the cards. With respect to the original limited run and the wonderful people who bought those first packs, Edgington and Beetson have created two all new packs showcasing a selection of the 437 other ‘Sluts’.

The two packs are “R” and “X” Rated: R is naughty, but a bit demure; X is the right choice if you’re looking looking for nudey boys, and generally ruder girls. Each pack is printed on delicious coated heavyweight matte stock, but the best feature is that every single card contains a different illustration (or ‘Slut’). These are a great way to unbalance your poker opponent, or add a cheeky sparkle to any cards evening. Both decks are available in the Lost At E Minor store

In the Little Companions Rebelling Against the Magician t-shirt, label The Balletcats capture everything that we love about the holiday season: rebellion, flames, and striped pants. Okayboss is an illustrator based in sunny Sydney who combines the powers of PB&J sandwiches, cats on the Internet, and a pocketful of edible crayons into a rainbow Voltron drawingbot. His shirts are anything from abstract space particles, to hands with expressions, while his music-inspired art prints are playful, witty, and gorgeous. Sometime in 2010, the folks behind Dirty Dishes had the slightly silly idea of using cheeky vintage photos and putting them on dinner plates. After doing lots of research, talking to lots of people, and receiving loads of positive feedback, they wondered if this idea was so silly after all. And thus Dirty Dishes was born.

The dinner plates are 10″ porcelain coupe plates and the images used on them have never been used for anything like this before. The plates are made on a limited run and there will be more designs to come in the future. Although we’re pretty thrilled with those currently available now — Belinda relaxing at the banquette, the young love of Mel and Steve in the summerhouse, and the classic workout that only the best of gyms can provide for Selina — according to our friends at Dirty Dishes, there are many more gems still to come.
