New Illustration / The WTF image of today
March 6, 2012 | New Illustration | by Nini Baseema |

New Illustration / Teddy Roosevelt vs. Big Foot
March 3, 2012 | New Illustration | by Kevin Haugen |
What does Teddy Roosevelt, the tireless champion of the wild lands and the harbinger of railway commerce, have in common with Big Foot? Nothing, but the art of SharpWriter shows us a glimpse of another universe in which the feared stalker of the forest and stealer of campfire bites meets a Teddy with a little bit more pomp and circumstance.

New Illustration / Drawsgood illustration and design

I specialize in apparel design and custom illustration but I have recently started exploring pixel art and sprite animation. I am also dabbling in pop culture illustrations and designs. When I’m not doing either of those, I’m honing my concept art skills and illustrating and creating fantastical and whimsical characters and paintings.

New Illustration / Mike Rogers draws America’s nuclear power plants
March 1, 2012 | New Illustration | by Michael Amter |
75 colored pencil drawings by Mike Rogers recently exhibited at the impressive Parker’s Box Gallery in Williamsburg. The work documented all of the nuclear power plants in various locations throughout the United States. An ambitious obsession with primary color coded repetition, depicting complex landscapes in simplistic Christmas Card fashion. The individual pieces are small, delicate, romantic, yet the overwhelming numbers stagger. The controversial subject, handled in a manner few have attempted, provided quite a challenge.

New Illustration / Achewood: a brilliant web comic by Chris Onstad

Achewood is the most well written comic on the web. Lately, I’ve been swooning over the artwork of LA-based illustrator Eunice San Miguel. All the fine details in her paintings are executed really beautifully and gives you the sense that she has a patient hand. Read more
The New York Times has just run an interesting article about artist Jorge Colombo, who created this week’s cover for The New Yorker magazine exclusively using the iPhone application Brushes: ‘Absolutely nobody can tell I am drawing’. Colombo told the Times. ‘In fact, once I was doing the drawing at some place, and my wife was around, and they asked her why did I have to work so hard? I seemed to be always on my iPhone sending messages’. Read more
So I have this recurring dream. Well, not really a dream as such. More a footnote on the thesis on life; a ‘mental meandering’ where my mind flows to a secret place which only I and Paul McCartney can access. Read more

Last weekend I went to the Golden West in Baltimore to check out the What Cheer? Brigade, a marching band from Providence. I wasn’t expecting much, but when they opened with a cover of Slayer’s Raining Blood, my knees buckled. I think I could hear a musak version of that riff, and I’d still bang my head. The rest of the band’s set was just as riotous, with people dancing so hard, you’d think we were at Mardi Gras. I haven’t had that much fun at a show in ages.

Sometime in 2010, the folks behind Dirty Dishes had the slightly silly idea of using cheeky vintage photos and putting them on dinner plates. After doing lots of research, talking to lots of people, and receiving loads of positive feedback, they wondered if this idea was so silly after all. And thus Dirty Dishes was born. Read more
