Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

Polish artist Paul Marcinkowski has turned his body into a walking infographic. All in the name of art, of course. The tattoo features a number of trivial, and not so trvial facts: including that 45 million Americans have tattoos. Read more

I love the brashness of this ongoing series, Poupée Barbie, by French artist Jocelyn Grivaud, created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the doll that (most) every girl grew up with. Grivaud has pulled stills from iconic movies, paintings and photos, casting Barbie as the star in a statement about her seemingly timeless relevance. Read more

Our friends over at How To Be A Retronaut recently published a killer selection of print ads from two issues of Playboy Magazine in 1962. It shows that while much has changed in the way of messaging, not enough has changed by way of the medium. Read more

Anna Utopia Giordano has created these Popbottles for an art exhibtion as a way to raise ‘social awareness on topics such as alcohol abuse by teens, alcohol abuse by pregnant women, the disinterest of some parents towards their children (abandoned for days between toys and video games), [and] how far marketers can go to gain the attention of their younger customers’. Oh, ok. We just think they look kinda cool. Read more

How the times have changed! Check out these awesome screenshots of how some of our favourite websites looked at the very moment they launched back in the day, then be grateful for the savvy workings of digital designers. Mind you, I think the New York Times back then kinda looked easier to read. Read more

Marketing executive Jonathan Kiekbush has a pretty interesting night job: he breaks up people’s relationships. That’s right, for a small set fee (£5 plus expenses), he’s a professional dumper. Trivial fact: most of his clients are men. Not surprisingly, as our friends at Oddity Central have noted, he’s single himself.

Now, this is clever, contentious and a big step into the unknown. Put simply (in their own words): ‘ReDigi is the world’s first online marketplace for pre-owned digital music. Its genius is in its ability to facilitate the transfer of a digital music file from one user to another without copying or file sharing. This gives digital music a resale value for the first time ever, and consumers the freedom to buy and sell the music they rightfully own. ReDigi also gives back to artists and labels through generous payments with every track sold (and resold)’. Sold? So are we. Kind of.

I first moved to New York in 2006, and it was exciting enough to live in that great Metropolis even then. But the long termers often referred to how different the city was from it’s gritty, dirty, crime-ridden, erm, glory days back in the 1980s. Steven Siegel knows it. His documentary photos from that era cast a New York that was overrun with graffiti, litter, and interesting people, a long way removed from the more sanitised version of the city most of us experience these days. Artist Travis English made these amazing minimalist posters for all six Star Wars films. They’re good enough to make you want to watch the series through. Yes, this does mean sitting through The Phantom Menace again, but it almost seems worth it. Almost! Read more

Schmidt, Hammer and Lassen’s design for the Copenhagen national library is a celebrated structure in the already glittering design portfolio of northern Europe. The marble and glass façade of The Black Diamond (yes, that is what their national library is called) is an example of architectural brilliance, with even the angled walls designed to best mirror the city’s beautiful canals.
Those old issues of Popular Mechanics that forecasted the wondrous technological developments of tomorrow now seem dated and more representative of the times in which they were published than the times they tried to predict. Read more
Beach House are certainly different. The dream pop/indie rock duo from Baltimore create music bursting with atmospheric rhythms, pretty organs and poignant lyrics. I’m loving Norway, the twosome’s debut single from their upcoming album, Teen Dream. If the vocals sound familiar, that’s because lead singer Victoria Legrand shared backing vocals on Grizzly Bear’s Two Weeks. Now how’s that for trivia?
