There’s no finer way to experience the pristine New Zealand countryside than riding horses at Rangihau Ranch, in the Coromandel. While the Lost At E Minor team were in New Zealand recently, we enjoyed a morning riding the horses at Rangihau. Read more

The Park8 Hotel is one of Sydney’s lesser known boutique hotels, but it’s the place to stay if you fancy taking Sydney by foot. Around the corner is Sydney’s busiest shopping strip, the Pitt Street Mall. And across the road is the iconic Hyde Park. Surry Hills, Kings Cross and Darling Harbour are not far from the Park8. We stayed in a 1 bedroom loft apartment, which includes a wonderfully large spa bath and rainshower. Read more

Here’s a little something you may not know about me: I love a good pair of socks. A well designed set of socks is the ultimate luxury. It adds a small touch of colour and personality under a standard work attire. And a good set of socks can be a real mood lifter. It’s your little secret. So I was delighted to check out the awesome range from MINGA BERLIN. Now, these aren’t ordinary socks. They’re beautifully designed using the finest organic cotton. But it’s the colour palette and quality of MINGA BERLIN’s socks that really lifts you. Read more

Newcastle, the city that I moved to in 2008 from Sydney, and the place from where Lost At E Minor (and the rest of our business) is run (along with our office in Soho, New York), has just been rebranded. The new brand is simply NEWCASTLE. See Change. Read more

I heard the impressive girls behind the Newcastle art and fashion label, High Tea with Mrs Woo, talk last night. Man, they are an awesome team. These three sisters have been making beautiful, hand-sewn fashion for the past ten years: a labour of love, inspired by their environment, their love of their craft and materials, and their own unique sense of aesthetic. I walked away from their talk — organised by Renew Newcastle — inspired by the beautiful work they create each day. Read more

I’m loving the collages from Newcastle artist, musician and lawyer, Rod Smith. Fronting one of my favourite bands, Firekites, Smith spends his spare time collecting bits and pieces of inspiration to craft a visually compelling piece of modern art. The end result reflects an artist who understands colour and when to stop. Read more

The funky little office that Lost At E Minor operates from in Australia had a little Mad Men style party the other week. Thanks to our friends at Smirnoff, the Mules and cocktails were flowing and the crowd was in full cheer. Here’s to the fun year that was 2010. Read more

Printed Caravan’s range of innovative, artistic gift wrap is welcome, particularly at this time of the year. After all, how does the creative individual wrap gifts these days? I have shunned the dollar-shop’s cheap offerings for my own artwork, brown paper, magazine wrap, even newspaper. Read more

Last weekend I stayed at The Establishment Hotel, Sydney, courtesy of the boutique and luxury hotel specialists Mr & Mrs Smith. This elegant hotel is housed within the same building as The Establishment bar, the three hatted est. restaurant, Hemmesphere cocktail lounge and sushi restaurant Sushi e. With this array of evening activity, coupled with the oversized room and tempting marble and limestone bathroom, it’s no surprise we didn’t venture far after checking in. Read more

Emma Davis’s debut self-titled album has been on frequent rotation in the Lost At E Minor offices. Recorded out of Newtown, the album is full of delicious melodies which allow her voice to shine through. The killer track is Machines, which you can hear after the jump. Read more

I really love the design lines of Vanmoof bikes. As it is with a lot of great design, a key feature of the bike is what’s not in the product: no gears; no hand-brakes (remember those awesome back-brakes from your BMX as a kid? Well, they’re back!). The lights are built-in and charged via USB or the sun. Damn, I really want one.

There’s no easy way to say this, but too many blokes who care about fashion end-up looking like kids down at the beach. What looks okay when you’re a teenager just doesn’t cut it once you reach a riper age. To address this gap in the market, new Australian label The Rocks Push has launched a range of well-fitting men’s beach shorts. Read more

Following on from her brother’s solo album, Australian singer-songwriter Julia Stone has released her own debut album, The Memory Machine. The songs were all written in New York last year while she was in between Angus & Julia Stone tours. These songs could easily have appeared one of the duo’s album. However, having only Julia Stone’s voice inevitably leaves it sounding more pared back and, in keeping with the album cover art, it also has a darker sound than the brother-sister act does.
Jason Hernandez draws from medieval religious art and classical European images to create grotesque yet vibrant images laden with contemporary social criticism. The punk-metalhead in me can’t get enough of this stuff.

Woohoo! Another flash game that actually tests your cognitive abilities. LightBot is a difficult, but satisfying game in which you direct a little robot using a system of simple commands in order to light up various squares on a grid. The first few levels guide you through the seemingly easy process, but when there are multiple sets of directions requiring you to write what are essentially codes, it can get pretty hairy.
Haunts is one twisted, skewered, pulsating, gyrating disco tune. Seriously. Jacob Safari, aka Bark, Bark, Bark, sure knows how to take a dirgey chord progression and dress it up in layers of disjointed, unsettling noise.
Amanda Yoakum is the creative whirlwind behind YoaKustoms, customised sneakers which stand as ‘an artistic expression rather than just a factory look’. We dig these kicks like we haven’t dug kicks in a long, long time. Read more
