Poignant and well-observed, the characters Dave Valeza creates on a daily basis fill his sketchbooks until there is no room left. Since graduating from SCAD, Valeza has gone on to work on some great comics projects. Also, I love his ongoing series of dude drawings.
Chicago-based designer and doodler extraordinaire Jeremy Pettis creates whimsical work. Equal parts silly and obsessive, Pettis’s work deals with absurd and banal things (such as nose-picking, weed brownies, rainbows). But his excellent sense of color and design provides a unique air of sophistication to everything he does.
Milwaukee-based cartoonist and designer Pietro Norante maintains a blog of quick, often hilarious, drawings about his life. His work is a collection of unique musings on life, poop jokes, fatherhood, anger management, ninjas, drawing, bikes and more.
After spending his early years in Bosnia, designer and illustrator Boris Pelcer emigrated to the Midwest with his family, and has been creating wonderful things ever since.
Documenting their relationship with an ongoing series of photographs since they met in 2008, Quinnford and Scout have become something of a queer blogging sensation over the past few years. Their photography, also posted on flickr and tumblr, has a dedicated and growing following, and it’s easy to see why. The images are not only beautifully shot, they are convincing glimpses into their life as a couple, depicting moments ranging from the mundane or funny, to the slightly NSFW.
