I had the opportunity in the past month of working with Yamada Atsushi. This eccentric dude goes by the name of Hot Sushi, giving his shop its playful name. Sushi’s Shack sits snugly between a few of the most quirky spots on Tybee Island, GA, contrasting heavily with the norm of perfectly polished white picket fences. But don’t let the appearance throw you: this shop is home to one of the most fantastic surfers in the world. Originally from Japan, Hot Sushi and his shop should not be overlooked.

When I first saw one of these little pads, I was immediately drawn in by their unique look and crafty feel. Later, I found out I was actually looking at a record album cover – or a piece of one at least. 12 Inch Notes are handmade notebooks made from recycled album covers, and make the perfect little purse notebook, journal, gym log, gift and all-around notepad for everyday use. I had the opportunity to edit a video on the making of them. Check it out here.

Published by Joshua Raab, the pocket sized, 60 page book is simply charming, delightfully witty, sometimes brutal, and extremely visceral.
