I’m one of the contributors to the artistic collective I Scream Factory, founded by Alexandra Plesner (Dazed & Confused/Satellite Voices). These images I took for the collective are my attempt to visualize the evanescence of ice cream with a scent of nostalgia and longing for childhood. I love the fact that we explore perceptions of life through the medium of ice cream by delving into the metaphorical possibilities of the product.

It’s a pure joy to watch passing sceneries through the window synchronize with their music as well as the vibe of the running train. They’re currently writing songs for the follow-up to last year’s The Quickening.

Having lived in Europe for seven years, Japanese artist Aoki Takamasa, whose music work has been endorsed by the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto and Thom Yorke, returned to Japan last year. Earlier this month, I attended the opening party of his third photography exhibitionheld at Bloom Gallery in Osaka. I found his landscapes particularly interesting. They are somewhat detached and seem as if taken by an alien with everlasting curiosity.

I recently shot a Japanese band called Taffy for the British Music magazine, NME. It’s not rare for Japanese bands to sing in English, but ironically, few of them manage to have their music heard outside of Japan. However, Taffy are an exception. Their shoegaze and Britpop-influenced sound has really caught the eye of the British music industry. As a result, they were signed to Club AC30, who released their debut LP, Caramel Sunset, in the UK and Europe in May.
