Anton Marrast’s Slow Story is a beautifully drawn surreal narrative. It reminds me of Jonas Odell’s classic, powerful short animation Revolver.

We’ve all had an embarrassing injury, or two, and Get Well Soon is a series of animated shorts produced by 12foot6 based around this entertaining theme. In Foxy, a woman recalls the distressing repercussions of contracting Appendicitis in her teenage years. My ideas for the animation were first drawn onto paper and then re-drawn into Flash. Textures were then added by scanning in things from painted surfaces to pieces of tissue paper.

Here we have an excellent re-interpretation of a much-loved sport. Although I’ve only just heard of it, Underwater Hockey (also called Octopush or Water Hockey) has been gaining a steady global following over the years. It’s not a particularly spectator-friendly sport – audiences must wear snorkels and masks to get a good view of the playing area – but perhaps it might be worth trying to get to the next World Championships in 2013.
