What’s not to love? I’ve been into Weird Al since the 1980s. I had the album on tape that had his smash hits — I Lost on Jeapordy and I Want a New Duck — and played it out. White and Nerdy has brought Al front and center again, but who can forget Amish Paradise: ‘As I walk through the valley where I harvest my grain, I take a look at my wife and realize she’s very plain’. We recently discovered we know someone who has worked closely with Al and I am dying for him to make a guest appearance on our next album.
We love Wooden Toy, a quarterly Melbourne-based arts and culture magazine that is not only beautifully art directed but also casts a wide net for new creative talent to feature. Read more
Designer Mac Funamizu has really hit the jackpot with this. His latest invention, the cryptically named Sophie, is an iPhone case which prints photos just like a Polaroid. Simply take the picture, then print the photo out the bottom of the case. Genius! Now, who will start mass-producing this concept so we can buy one? Read more
Sufjan Stevens creates autistic music for introverts — soft, shy, naive, full of shadows, windows, and insecurities. Yet it all sounds slightly forced, his enigmatic songwriting as comforting as it is unsettling.
The controversial and multifaceted International contemporary art exhibition Trailblazers hits Sydney this month. Boutwell Draper Gallery will grace multimedia works by pioneering Australian, American and European artists from November 19 onwards. I’m thrilled to see groundbreaking pieces by Ben Frost, Kill Pixie, Copyright and Cleon Patterson [above], to name a few.
