Story Books is a band made up of six guys from Kent, England, who have been getting great attention from the BBC as well as in Texas the other week at SXSW, despite the fact that their first EP, Too Much A Hunter, isn’t due to be released until April 28. They also have good backing, with Communion Records and co-founder Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons. Check out their latest video for Simple Kids, as well as their 2012 single, Peregrine.

Situs invertus is a condition when someone’s internal organs are inverted, but at least you can’t see this strange condition on the outside. This new video for recent Mercury Prize winners Alt-J (symbol for delta on a Mac) imagines limbs and body parts in reverse, and the result is like a car wreck that I can’t stop gawking at. It helps that the song, and full album titled An Awesome Wave, is truly remarkable.

Frank Gehry’s over-scaled cornice surprised the conservative town of Boston when he renovated the Tower Records building with Schwartz/Silver back in 1989. His penthouses in New York now take their sculptural cues from the experience of exaggerated bay windows where a person can step beyond the facade of a building. What is interesting is the promotional video for the new penthouses uses tilt shift views which imply that your view 870 feet up from the tallest residential building in the U.S. will make New York seem like your personal playset.

As reported by NPR, these three high school musicians won the annual Iceland Music Experiments last year in Reykjavik, and produced Hljóma Þú EP with 20 free hours of studio time. With obvious Icelandic comparisons to Bjork and Mum, I love how these guys bring the clarinet to the forefront of Scandinavian electronic music. The album can be purchased here, which also has a nice range of independent music. Be sure to listen to the second track, Viltu vitrast.

This version of Under the Sea, yes, from the Little Mermaid by Timeflies has hit 2 million views on Youtube, so why not add a few more? These two music majors, who graduated a few years ago from Tufts, have been putting out a new song and video every Tuesday since March 2011. Although we are all sick of Call me Maybe and the various Youtube outtakes, these guys put together the best remix of the song on April 24 of this year. Also, check out their tour dates across the US which is currently underway.

These imagined, weightless, graphic geometries imply man-made structures, but dissolve when they reach the ground. Unbound by gravity, my drawings imply spatial relationships and connections, and yet upon further investigation, would be impossible to construct. They are rather constructed by an armature of light.

Casa Artelexia, a father and daughter business located in San Diego, recently moved to a new location in the design section of Little Italy North. All the goods are from Mexico, with a great selection of colorful handmade artisan items ranging from wooden milagro crosses, Mexican wrestler masked piggy banks, to a wide variety of paper mache skulls celebrating the Day of the Dead. On my recent visit, I was told the website will soon be updated to include more merchandise, so feel free to contact the owners for any items photographed.

I’ve been following the work of William O’Brien Jr, who now teaches at my old architecture school, MIT. This Twins Project is a thoughtful, puzzle-piece of design, but what is most striking is the fact that all the images are renderings by Peter Gutherie, which perfectly capture the dialogue between these two ‘twins’, separated by landscape, snow and fog.

How can you go wrong with a blog that has a recording called Listen To Me Wearing Dentures? The site is Recordo Obscura, where I found a version of Edgar Allan Poe’s, The Tell-Tale Heart, from a department store Halloween record I owned as a kid. This story in particular freaked me out, probably because of the idea of ‘madness’ rather than a ghost or monster. So I listened to it endlessly while staring at the lady with the snakes in her hair.

I love this full-on bombardment of visual images in a video for Hurricane from this terrific band out of Brooklyn called MS MR. This single is now on iTunes, but I assume the band gets more profits from sales through their own Bandcamp site.

In the spirit of Henry Darger, this video goes perfectly with this song, The Strongest Man in the World. Time and time again, my kids are at first interested in what I’m looking at on the computer, and then they roll their eyes at another ‘weird cartoon’ that Dad is watching.
