After a brutal assault outside of a bar that left him disfigured and brain-damaged, Mark Hogancamp began constructing a miniature town in his backyard, populated with dolls and GI-JOEs. He lives through them and takes amazing portraits of his creations. The Jeff Malmberg film, Marwencol, paints an excellent picture of this important artist.

I have believed for a long time that the future of modern art is the video game. Amnesia: The Dark Descent by Frictional Games is an indie-horror game that advances the standing of the medium. Knuckleheads is a pretty fun little side scrolling game where you’re a pair of Mexican-wrestler-looking things attached to each other by a chain. You swing each other around to move and hit floaty capsule things for points, and you can change the length of the chain to get over various obstacles, but watch out for the bats.
The frontman for Sydney trailblazers, Paper Scissors, has just dropped his first solo EP under the alias of Pork Pies, and it’s an absolute beaut. Like the Paper Scissors’ more low-key numbers, there’s a real feeling of raw nostalgia running through the record. Jai Pyne’s distinctive vocals linger on your eardrums for a while after they’ve ceased, anchored down by a poignancy and sense of longing.

The dial is a modern version of the 19th century art form of lithophanes: carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images.
