I first met Matt Woosey around four years ago whilst studying at University. He would turn up at the open-mic nights and campus gigs: a quiet, polite and modest chap. He performs with his blues-infused acoustic guitar techniques and a gritty powerful vocal that demands your attention. He has played a gig every night for the past three years – give or take. A true hard-working musician.

Daughter is 21 year-old Elena Tonra, an experimental folk singer-songwriter from London. She really brings something refreshing and interesting to the table. I found myself lost in her stories, induced into thought by the awesome ambient production on her Wild Youth EP.

I spent last summer in the mountains of South Wales making my album from which the single Maps was released last month. The album is a chronological tapestry of tales of life’s experiences and ideals, and songwriting is my mind’s coping mechanism. Maps is the first release, but there will be a visual accompaniment for each song on the album, each providing a character’s story eventually intertwining into Patchwork: the title of the final track and of the album itself.

I am rather suggestible to quirky live videos, as I’m somewhat obsessed with the authenticity that they provide to an artist’s performance. When I came across Bandages, my mind was slightly blown and I smiled uncontrollably for at least five minutes after the video finished. Hey Rosetta! take you on a journey through performance locations, keep you guessing, and never leave you unfulfilled. It’s a lovely song, too.

As we grow older, we all become increasingly aware of our own mortality. It is the mark of adulthood: the reminiscence of a childhood where worries are retrospectively non-existant. It is, therefore, rather moving when public art can bring a sense of community and individuality into our twenty-first century lives.

The Bon Iver album For Emma, Forever Ago changed the way in which I listen to music: its simplicity, raw ambience, its honest eeriness, and the unexpected sound of Justin Vernon scratching his beard, make it an album I consider life-changing. Bon Iver, Bon Iver is a glorious progression on the minimalism of the previous record, but for those who adored the intimacy of For Emma, this live video of Justin Vernon, S Carey and two pianos in a London studio provide the songs of the new with the feeling of the old.
