Check out this series of short films considering the notion of ‘home’. I particularly love Hill, about a guy who became the caretaker of a remaining part of the crumbling Packard car plant in Detroit. Also check out Prime, about a burger joint that has been in Manhattan since 1938 and has remained unchanged since the 60’s – a true time capsule.

A sad loss earlier this year, Mike Kelley was an artist who influenced a generation and helped bring attention to Los Angeles as a vital art capital. His Mobile Homestead’s project – a recreation of his childhood home mounted on a trailer – was only part completed at the time of his death. The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit recently received funding that will ensure the completion of the piece as envisioned and will present it in 2013.

I am interested in the abandoned and obsolete in relation to contemporary culture. My recent drawings focused on the modern detritus frozen within the deserts of California and Arizona. Here in the majestic and desolate landscapes, objects of mobility such as planes, cars and other vehicles lay motionless and frozen in time. This imagery is crafted with an obsessive and time consuming colour pencil technique which forces a lengthy meditation on the image.

Ron van der Ende uses salvaged and reclaimed timber to create wall mounted reliefs of the stuff of our everyday, or at least the everyday we have left behind: classic cars, cassette tapes, planes, houses, stereo systems, spaceships and more. This is inventive and clever work.

In 2007, the three surviving members of Led Zeppelin reunited for a one off performance, joined on drums by the original drummer’s son – a young boy at the time of his father’s death, which ended the band in 1980. Recently released as Celebration Day, this document captures of rock ‘n’ roll at it’s finest. These guys prove they can still swagger big time.

This has been around a while, but is still one of the best things I have seen in a long time. Ok, I was right into hot wheels cars as a kid, but one must be impressed by this kinetic sculpture.
