As a fellow printmaker, I really appreciate the craft and time invested in creating these futuristic, retroactive collages by London-based digital artist, Natalie Nicklin. She describes her work in one nifty sentence: ‘Somewhere there’s a parallel universe made up of all our previously imagined technopias. I’d like to think my work reflects that place’.

Nicklin uses found photographs, screen-printing, typography and digital processers to create her space-explorationy collages. The result is bold, modern art with a sci-fi twist. Where will you be 24 October? I’ll be sipping a fine cocktail and listening to live music before watching the premiere of The Master at the opening night Gala for Cockatoo Island Film Festival. Only accessible by ferry, this gem of an island is one of Sydney Harbour’s favourite summer locations for music festivals, art exhibitions, and film festivals. Also headlining is Tim Burtons’ Frankenweenie and Manic, starring Elijah Wood. Live music acts include Arrested Development, Matt Corby, and local talent Bluejuice. A perfect way to spend an afternoon while the sun sets. The Cockatoo Island Film Festival is only on for 5 days, from 24 – 28 October.

Forget Me Not is the title of Georgina Ross’ current solo show at Kaleidoscope Gallery, Sydney. As the name suggests, the show is based on capturing memories from long-forgotten messages and portraits. Inspired by hand-written messages on the back of discarded photographs, most of which are found in second hand shops, these are photos long lost by unexpected circumstances such as war and emigration. Ross has interpreted each heartfelt dialogue into a series of dry-point prints. The limited edition prints are on display until October 2 at Kaleidoscope Gallery, 3-7 Dank St, Waterloo, Sydney.
