At the helm of this 35 foot long camera is photographer, Dennis Manarchy, who is traveling around the US taking portraits of everyday people in all 50 states. The camera puts out negatives 4.5 X 6 feet tall. The final result is a picture two stories high. The detail in the eyes alone is said to be 1,000 times greater they anything ever shot before. This new gadget from Wacom is definitely on my wish list. This handy little device lets you draw directly onto any writing surface and then instantly upload the images into your computer. Amazing.

 

I grew up decorating cakes in my mom’s Baskin Robbins, so something about Margie Livingston’s creative process as she makes sculptures out of paint reminds me of squeezing multicolored decorating chocolate out of plastic bottles. Of course, her work is much more impressive than my little flowers and penguins. Read more

Already with a Spectrum show under their belt, The Archerbolds are an up and coming Australian band well worth checking out. I saw the Sydney-based lads play recently at the Mars Hill Café and it was evident that they should be permanently rocking out on a real stage; not in front of coffee sippers. Their floating lyrics, smart guitar riffs and meaty bass lines are infused by The Strokes, Mars Volta, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin — ultimately producing a freshly spun modern-vintage sound. Lead vocalist and guitarist Geoffrey ‘Gep’ Rectin says The Archerbolds plan to create a solid sound for next year: ‘Over summer, we’re recording an EP and working on a set sound, defining more of an image’. If their track, Rest Your Soul, is anything to go by, then it should be pretty dandy.

It looks like the New Rave movement is making a big comeback thanks to Carrie Mundane, designer of the UK-based fashion label, Cassette Playa. Read more
