After researching and planning for a couple of years, my partner Claire and I bought a 1960 Heidelberg Windmill, had it reconditioned and started to learn the trade from our home studio in Thirroul, learning from eccentric retired printers with each step. Our first project was a wedding invitation set: a very fun (and at times frustrating) combination of patience and payoff. Read more

Heartfelt and sparse, the Rural Alberta Advantage draw you closer with each new track. They come across almost naked in their earnestness, but there’s something almost majestic in the way the songs are built: inventive drumming, quirky instrumentation and wistful singing from the trio combining powerfully over each album. Listen to Stamp [above] to hear them at their most forceful.

So simple. So cool. Artists are commissioned to provide two-colour illustrations that are printed on a Vandercook press, sent out as letter-pressed greeting cards, then can be flipped and folded to produce a matted artwork print ready for framing. More than likely, this homie is going to diss, if not one, then all of your favorite rappers and probably offend you. But I dare someone to say he is not speaking the truth. Plus, whose voice better to hear it in than that of Ghostface, Na’mean? I can read this blog for hours with a smile on my face.

Back in the ’90s, just as the gangsta rap phenomenon was winding down and hip-hop was fragmenting into its own subgenres, Prince Paul and RZA kicked off the short-lived horrorcore fad with their group Gravediggaz. At the time, the melding of dark, gothic themes with hardboiled rap seemed gimmicky and awkward, a strange extension of the early and awful attempts to bridge hip-hop and metal, but on closer listen, the now defunct supergroup was way more innovative than they were given credit for. I’m not a watch wearer, but if I was, then I’d be rocking the wickedly cool new range of Diesel timepieces. The Basel 2008 collection is a sparkling, futuristic, retrotastic anagram of style, character and precision — of the digital variety. My favorite? The 1980s-themed watch above, with its ‘silver metallic leather cuff’ and ‘reflective shine’. Read more
