Mummy and daddy told us to try and draw inside colouring book lines while growing up. Rowena Martinich’s parents must have been an exception. The Melbourne-based artist is an abstract expressionist with a difference, blurring Greenbergian formalism with edgy street art practices. She has a love affair with making her mark known in everyday public places; think the shop, at school, on the train or in cafés. But her work is also displayed in the white pristine space of the art gallery, and most recently, the MECCA Cosmetica Myer store.

The Mailbooks for Good project is simple: buy a book, read it, and post it to a charity for free. Each book features a cleverly designed dust jacket which transforms into a pre-paid, pre-addressed parcel once the book is turned inside-out.

The Footpath Library charity will then post your pre-loved book to an Australian in need. It’s good Karma, folks! After all, when you share a book, you’re sharing more than just pages of paper and ink. You’re sharing the opportunity to learn, discover and feel cared for. I love seeing young, creative minds expressing original ideas in a bid to stylise the world. So when Miami Beach-based fashion/entertainment group College Lyfe hit my radar, my attention was caught. The story goes: three high school classmates – Theodore “Teddy” Borek, Cruise Bogel and Christopher Mason – had a strong interest in fashion, music and hosting parties throughout school. Come college, the boys wanted to take their craft to the next level and formed the fun business venture, College Lyfe Worldwide, in 2011. If your eyeballs have been glued to the London 2012 Olympics, chances are you’re being bombarded with advertising. Adidas alone reportedly paid $150 million to secure an official sponsorship deal. So it’s little wonder London designers Rizon created a series of unofficial posters for small-to-medium businesses to use to keep the Games about sport, not sponsorship, as the slogan exclaims.

It only took 5,016 egg boxes, 26 litres of glue, 10,100 nails, 15 litres of paint, 80 square metres of steel, 5,013 staples and 512 hours for London-artist Stuart Murdoch to create this full-size tank. He created the piece in a bid to raise money for Help For Heroes, a charity which assists wounded British service-people returning from conflict.
