It’s taken me along time to figure out what I’m really good at as an artist. The evolution has finally led to artwork I’m proud to display and sell at a store called, Artist in LA LA Land. It’s a wonderland of fantasy and articulated paper dolls, like exotic animals seemingly escaped from the zoo riding high on penny farthing bikes, and blooming, flowerhead ladies in Victorian swimsuits bathing along the beach. It’s a place where the fun doesn’t stop for me, and for those who love retro curiosities and paper play.

If you like vintage items that have history and mystery to them, you’ll love the Occulter. It is a boutique in New York City with an artful collection of photographs, jewelry, books, stationary and even black honey. All are contemporarily made, but feel like they were found in the attic of a haunted gothic house. If you’re not in New York, you can still do some armchair shopping at their online shop.

I am a long-time fan of Olaf Hajek. But the a href=”http://50watts.com/Apes-on-a-Horse-and-More-Toys-from-the-Void” target=”_blank”>vintage toys I found at 50 Watts were a bit scary. Devils, guillotines and electric chairs. Oh my! I wonder if, in a few hundred years from now, some of the modern toys that kids play with will also have this strange quality to them too.

A friend told me to look up Mariana Monteagudo’s artwork. She recommended it because I have a tendency to be drawn to cute, yet creepy art. I was blown away by it. Her work consists of large, ceramic art dolls. I may be strange, but I thought they were less creepy and more cute. She’s a Venezuelan artist with a new show called, Humanoid, running at Space 2 in Bogota, Colombia.
