I was lucky enough to do a graphic novel residency in Florida last year and Craig Thompson was one of the master artists. He’s an easy going, inspiring guy, and got me psyched about inking with brush and expanding my drawing repertoire. Read more

Nobrow are leading the field in making independent comics with stunning production values. They took the mantle passed down by Chris Ware and just ran out of the stadium. Each book is totally different and seems to hold the soul of the artists. File under ‘nothing like superheroes’.

This is my comic I’ve been working on for the last five months and the first release of Sixty40 Press. It’s a mini epic saga of Lars the Last Viking’s quest as he fights the oppressive forces of apathy and death-metal pine trees in a raid against the world. Joined by his faithful pig, Olaf, and written in rhyming couplets, you know you want to find out more about this comic and how it was made at my process blog.

This is set to begin construction next year in Huangzhou and looks amazing. If this is where China wants to go as global superpower, I am in. It looks like an Opera House for comics and the Dutch firm MVRDV, who won the pitch, designed the complex around the shape of the speech bubble. It will have three comics libraries, interactive light displays on the outer surfaces. Read more

I’m very excited about this film. From the producers of Scott Pilgrim and Shaun of the Dead, teen kids in a London housing project fight with aliens. I hope the riots don’t put a lid on its release for fear of empowering British youths more.

Mr O’Reilly is a unique breed amongst animation directors, having both style and substance. I’d call him an auteur, but he’d call me a nasty name or send me a virus. This short film left me more satisfied after 14 minutes than many feature films can do in 90. And heck, you can buy his film in HD for 4 Euros.

We like this blog, Silent Cities. We like seeing images of some of the most noisy and crowded places in the world momentarily bathed in silence. There is something both serene and eerie about these scenes. The images above and below are from London, Sydney and Detroit. Read more
Stereomood is better than a freshly baked croissant. Okay, maybe you can’t eat Stereomood, but you can listen to it during cooking time. Just as I was waving good-bye to my iPod and closing the drawer I was burying it in, a friend of mine sent me a link. I was filled with complete happiness and optimism. The world will be okay, I thought to myself. I proposed to said friend as I was feeling quite romantic during our candlelit dinner and was rejected. I mm now feeling quite lonely, with a slight hangover.
