Although I did not have the pleasure of attending this city wide theatrical performance, by all accounts it was a spellbinding, magical encounter. It’s not only the work of this photography collective I appreciate, but their philosophy on photography and how they are challenging its traditions. Photographers are generally destined for a lonely career but the idea of collaborating with a group of photographers and sharing every aspect of the work is a thrilling prospect. The quality of the work shows it works.
Tim Flach is probably best known for his highly crafted images of dogs and horses, but this epic series of photographs surpasses Equus and Dogs Gods easily. More Than Human is about the human-animal relationship and goes deeper than the patiently lit and hugely engaging portraits.
