Malcolm McNeill was just finishing art school when he began his seven year collaboration with the author, William S. Burroughs. This work, which has never been published, is finally going to see the light of day. Fantagraphics has two books coming out this Spring by McNeill: one with his lost drawings and paintings, and the other a reflection on the relationship between word and image which has made an indelible mark on the artist and master draftsman.

Shinji Turner-Yamamoto is a Japanese environmental artist who creates site specific work. His piece, Disappearances: An Eternal Journey, created for an abandoned space in Grand Rapids, Michigan, won the 2011 Artprize International Juried Award. Working with limestone, gypsum and dust, Turner-Yamamoto fabricates a poetic space where he emphasizes an intersection between what is hewn by nature and what is shaped by man. Read more

This short by MADE BY HAND is an eloquent example of the many possibilities one can uncover when stumbling on a dream and taking a hiatus.

 

LEGO artist Kevin J. Walter created a replica of Sauron’s fortress, Barad-dur, using over 50,000 LEGO pieces. The finished sculpture is almost as tall as Walter himself! Pretty amazing.

Andrea Innocent’s work is heavily influenced by Japanese art and culture. Themes range from investigations into the cult of Otaku, to traditional Japanese folk tales and textiles. Read more
