Chris Maggio has taken some of the most awkward photographs I’ve ever seen. That’s saying a lot considering 1.5 billion cell phone pictures are taken each day. The really special thing is the humanity he injects into scenes of society at its most floundering. He’s also one half of the directing team behind People Parade, a fascinating short film about a long-running variety show.

Chicago musician James Swanberg (under the moniker Today’s Hits) is in the midst of a song-a-day project running on two years. That’s right, for 685 consecutive days (and counting) he’s written and home-recorded a new song, without exception. His mostly garage rock songs are usually around a minute long. They get to the point and get out, but not before implanting themselves in the part of the brain that recognizes catchy melodies.
