Working with a cat as passionate as Daojia, and the militant underground legends, Scan 7, we knew we wanted the label to work as hard as the artists. It took a lot more paint and time than expected, but the first press is something special to us: a left-field record in unique sleeves.

Residing on the opposite end of the spectrum to the out-of-favour Gumball 3000, the Gentleman’s Guide To Racing is a much classier affair. It’s hard not to back these two friends as they travel around the world getting their first taste of tarmac racing, blogging and recording the events as they occur. Episode 1 was the Baja 1000, shot in November of last year, which has just gone up for inspiring viewing.

Rob Ricketts’ A3 designs are the electronic image equivalent of Muhammad Ali standing over Sonny Liston: simple and clean representation of a turning point in a culture. The series of four shows Roland TR-808 drum programming for classic tracks such as Planet Rock and Voodoo Ray, patterns as iconic as the machine itself.

This is a brilliant radio documentary on the late Conlon Nancarrow. Often composing music too fast or complicated for the human player, he took to punching holes manually into piano rolls. In essence, he was one of the first composers to use musical instruments as mechanical machines to create music that couldn’t be replicated by playing the piano live: a forerunner to all electronic composition. The Presence of Heart dress was unveiled by relative newcomers, Agent of Presence, at SXSW. It’s an outfit that gently lights-up along with the wearer’s heartbeat, whilst simultaneously sending the rhythm out wirelessly to any compatible device. A novelty, for sure, but a fresh avenue of fashion which opens up a world of possibilities for those of us still hoping Back to the Future was a blueprint for things to come.

There’s something other-worldly about these shots by Mierswa Kluska for the Berlin Philharmonic, which take a fascinating perspective from within the acoustic instrument. The internal landscape draws parallels to the architecture of buildings, and with a bit of imagination you can almost feel the unique tone and life of each acoustic instrument just by looking inside them.

What seemingly started as a group of adults getting back to the schoolyard spawned two decently-sized gatherings, dozens of profile clips and, inexplicably, a short zombie spin-off series.
