Next week I’ll be exhibiting some of my recent drawings in London alongside the work of three talented friends: Anna Coroneo, Natalie Tkachuk and Carly Casey at Four The Love of Art.

We have collaborated in creating a unique show, celebrating our individual and distinctive styles. Free spirited and wildly creative film-maker, Fiona Trick, took inspiration from her recent travels through Mexico for the film clip for Sparkadia’s latest single, Mary. Shot in Kiama, on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia, the desolate, angular rock formations and gloomy sky provide a dramatic setting, fitting to the epic and hymn-like song.

A month of double espressos, sleepless nights, and a love affair with Copic Markers, and I’m (almost) ready to ship all of my work back to the home land (sunny Australia) to exhibit over September and October. I’ve continued to explore the connection between human and animal, and have also become a little fascinated with the idea of illusion and concealment.

Helen Friel is a Paper Engineer and Illustrator, working in the lovely Papered Parlour, London. She graduated from Central Saint Martin’s in 2009 with a First in BA Graphic Design.

Her recent series, Predictions, is a collaboration with photographer Chris Turner, exploring the art of Hepatomancy — predicting the future by studying animal entrails — first practiced by the Babylonians over 4000 years ago.
