Since we are a total DYI band, we are always very aware of the new technologies applied in music. The last one we discovered is real fans investing in bands and becoming their partners. It’s a whole different perspective of crowdfunding music. Read more

We love music and it’s always a good feeling when we discover that class still exists: simple, strange and beautiful songs, elegant arrangements and a soft voice. This is the single, Walker, from their latest release, The Human Octopus.

Metronomy have been around for the last twelve years – almost like us actually – and their latest album, The English Riviera, is finally getting their name and music out to a whole new audience. They deserve it because it’s a great collection of work with amazing songs and just the right timing.

Last year, Twin Shadow released one of the best debut albums in many years, produced by Chris Taylor, a great musician from Grizzly Bear. We had the pleasure of seeing him Live this past week at Lux, one of best venues in Lisbon. This is one our favorite songs on the album, which was released by 4AD.

Exactly one year ago at the Cannes Film Festival, we saw a 29 minute video of a young director named Carleton Ranney. We immediately liked his aesthetic, and his talent and potential was so obvious that we made a point to track him down. One year later, he has already directed two of our most recent videoclips — Made For You and RGB [watch below] — from our new release, Explode. Finally available on Vimeo, here it is the first short cut by Carleton Ranney, called Slasher. Read more

Joana Vasconcelos is one of our favorite new Portuguese artists. She works with sculpture and installation, using a lot of materials and symbols that relate to Old Portugal but at the same time have a modernity and simplicity that we just love. Her crochet works, in particular, are very famous. Read more

We saw the new Woody Allen movie in Barcelona, and like most of this veteran director’s films, it is a lovely story about a classic topic in his work: relationships and their connection with arts in general. We like it a lot.
My friend Jordan Kasey, who does amazing, surreal, and terrifying oil paintings, has a show up at Honfleur Gallery in DC. You should go check her stuff out, it’s really good. Read more
The OP-1 is the most gorgeous synth/sampler I have ever seen. The layout and sounds it can produce seem quite unique and ideal for production and live use. It was also in part developed by the same guy who created the software I use to make music on a Game Boy — LSDJ by Johan Kotlinski.

I just finished illustrating a children’s story book written by Joshua Wilson called The UnStealer. Within this silly and fun collection of different scenarios, the UnStealer is a thief who steals the ‘Un’ from the front of descriptive words, ultimately turning negative events and feelings into positive ones. Attention agents and publishers!
A project of my producer and drummer, Tucker Martine, Mount Analog’s soundscapes are gorgeous, melty mixes of organic and processed sounds. Martine brings the best musicians together to create strange and beautiful music.
Pioneering Australian designer Kara Smith can definitely give Urban Originals a run for their money. She creates the most innovative handbags for those that truly want to stand out. Detailed with lovely pockets and vintage buttons, Smith’s retro inspired designs literally transform original vintage fabrics into ‘one-off’ clutches, handbags, totes and accessories. I’m in love with her clutches! But yes, if you missed her over the week end at the Blue Mountain’s Leura Village Fair, she’s stocked in Glebe and Sydney’s Todae store, as well as at a variety of online outlets.
We have a Contribute Section through which you can post onto LAEM under your name about your favourite pop culture discoveries. So help spread the good word about those talented peeps doing talented things. They win. You win. We win!
