I love the music of The Black Keys and have watched this video for their new single, Lonely Boy, about a million times. I’m sure others will be able to relate when I say that it reminds me a little of my Dad.

One of my creative buddies, Harvey Hartley, started out as an illustrator but has now branched out to photography. I think he has a really humorous way of capturing the mundane perfectly, which is definitely a reflection of his personality.

The work of Alan Baker, aka Charming Baker, first came to my attention when he illustrated some pieces for the Guardian newspaper several years ago. He has come a long way since then and is currently ripping up the fine art scene with huge sell-out shows. Read more

David O’Reilly is bordering on the line of genius. I don’t need to say much about him, just watch his animation, The External World, and you’ll see what I mean.

I’ve been a fan of Paul Davis’ work ever since I found his book, Us and Them, at University in 2005. His work is an acquired taste, but I find him hilarious.

I first came across one of Tessa Farmer’s pieces in the Saatchi Gallery in London and could not take my eyes of it. The intricate detail really needs to be seen to be believed, but the artwork on her site still looks great. Read more

Every year or so, I get itchy hands and have the urge to push my work into a slightly different direction. I felt my latest work warranted a new website to display it in a cleaner way, so have just launched the brand new Scribble Jay with an accompanying blog.

I love the illustrations in these 1970s children’s books by Gojin Ishihara (aka ‘Japan’s Norman Rockwell’). These surreal images are synonymous to a B-movie in their campiness yet antonymous in their attention to detail. Read more

Hello, my name is Zolton and I’m a text addict. That’s right, an instinctive, compulsive plier of the trade, straight from the Michael Douglas school of confessional proclamation. Yup, I don’t care if it’s quick or protracted; if it’s a group message or one just for me. I’ll take that text any damn way you can give it. And if that’s a crime in these repressed, conservative times, then so be it. Just don’t strip me of my pride. Or my mobile phone. [illustration by Nathan Jurevicius]

TIME magazine’s annual Person of the Year issue is coming out this week. I illustrated one of the runner-ups, but of course, I have to keep my mouth completely shut. I don’t know who is the winner though. On TIME’s website, you can see all the past covers of this most talked about issue of each year. It’s a good time to look back history and learn from it anyway, don’t you think?

French duo Trop Tard make straight-faced, Suicide-esque, synth-and-guitar electro tunes that sound like dark rituals performed in the catacombs beneath the streets of Paris. Repetitive, bleak, and cold, this is dance music for the shambling undead.

We love the vivid colours in the Freak La Notte range of t-shirts. The French label’s collection of shirts are like little canvases of super-styled surrealism – bold, elegant, and enchanting.

We have a Contribute Section through which you can post onto LAEM under your name about your favourite pop culture discoveries. So help spread the good word about those talented peeps doing talented things. They win. You win. We win!

Surreal and romantic black and white studies, visual diaries of people and places. This is the photography of Al Saulso, a Houston native who started as an artist in the graffiti scene and eventually transitioned into photography as a means of documenting life. Read more
