What fascinates me most is the juxtaposition of cute/silly with psychosis/darkness. My most recent body of work consists both of videos made up of remixed YouTube findings, as well as digital collages created with the children’s computer program KidPix.

This video embodies my favorite themes of cute and psychotic. I love that all that was done to the original video was that it was slowed down. One simple, minor alteration had the power to completely morph the feeling that this song evokes from innocent and mundane to absolutely insane and creepy.

I randomly came across Patrick Tsai’s work one day and absolutely fell in love with the seemingly effortless, raw, childlike qualities that both his photographs and his website design evoke.

His series titled My Little Dead Dick displays such a beautiful crudeness (an example being a photograph of a male laying on a bed, cropped to just his bare torso and suggestive blood-covered finger) as well as a surprisingly sweet love story. The photos were taken on a spontaneous romantic trip between Patrick Tsai and his then lover Madi Ju after they met on the Internet, ‘rendezvoused in Hong Kong, fell in love, quit their jobs, and struck out on a pan-Asian adventure together’.

Ken Kagami creates extremely suggestive yet hilariously clever drawings, sculptures and installations from children’s toys and other kitschy miscellaneous items. I admire his ability to execute loud, in-your-face, often disgusting concepts while at the same time maintaining a childlike simplicity and lightness.

This Japanese guy has a seemingly infinite amount of videos that are all dedicated to displaying Japanese desserts and snack foods up close. It’s simple, straightforward, and all you ever see are his hands dissecting these deliciously sexy food items.

The gorgeous texture of the Japanese language along with sounds of plastic packaging being ripped open and the mouth-watering visuals could not be more satisfying and exciting to me.
