Autistic artist Gilles Trehin’s imaginary city of Urville

Gilles Trehin is an amazing French artist. He has autism, and an incredibly creative mind. Now 32, he has created the imaginary city of Urville, which he has been working on since he was 15.The drawings of Urville are just astounding in terms of detail and execution. He also has a book of the same name, looking at the history, geography, economy, and culture of this totally imaginary city, along with 300 drawings.

I only saw the work of illustrator Chris Haughton this summer. I picked up his children’s book, A Bit Lost, and was immediately won over by the cover. The rest of it, and his work, does not disappoint. Beautifully simple, with great use of colour, his work is just very easy to look at and enjoy.
