This is one of my favourite websites. It’s French, so it can be tricky to find your way about, but it is totally worth it once you do. Your favourite bands, as you’ve never or rarely seen them, as well as what will be your new favourites. Beautifully captured by French film maker Vincent Moon, the musicians play acoustic sessions on quiet streets, on busses, under the Eiffel Tower. Arcade Fire, The Shins, Beirut, Fleetfoxes, Bon Iver, to name only a few from a huge list.

Cities, robots, bears and penguins. A lot of penguins. This is my work. I am in my fourth year at Art College in Limerick, Ireland, and started drawing in this kind of style about two years ago. Read more

Ham Sandwich. An Irish indie rock band from Kells, Ireland..rather than the snack. These guys released their second album, Whitefox, this year to widespread acclaim. Coming in at 33 mins or so, this album doesn’t have any filler. Just great songs throughout. The standout tracks for me are The Naurist, and ‘Ants’, one of my favourite songs this year. They are also put on a really really great show if you get to catch them live!

Gilles Trehin is an amazing French artist. He has autism, and an incredibly creative mind. Now 32, he has created the imaginary city of Urville, which he has been working on since he was 15.The drawings of Urville are just astounding in terms of detail and execution. He also has a book of the same name, looking at the history, geography, economy, and culture of this totally imaginary city, along with 300 drawings. Read more

I saw Eran Hillelli’s short animation, Between Bears, last year and was astounded by the beauty of it. It won Best Animation at Vimeo’s first film festival, which is no mean feat.

I only saw the work of illustrator Chris Haughton this summer. I picked up his children’s book, A Bit Lost, and was immediately won over by the cover. The rest of it, and his work, does not disappoint. Beautifully simple, with great use of colour, his work is just very easy to look at and enjoy. Read more

Describing himself as ‘a lad with a lisp with some stories to tell’, Ghostpoet sounds pretty relaxed. Cool name, smooth music, awesome album title. The brilliantly named Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam, is not just a great name, but an excellent album. The stand out track is Liiines. With its relaxed lyrical approach, and unique sound, Ghostpoet was well deserved of his Mercury Music Prize nomination earlier this year.

Li Xiaofeng is an artist from Beijing who takes shards of traditional ceramics from the song, ming, yuan and qing dynasties, sews them together on a leather undergarment and thereby creates a new kind of fashion. In his honor, the expression ‘made in China’ should certainly be turned into ‘made of China’! Read more

The problem with writing about art sometimes is that the actual image says more than words ever could. Such is the case with Craig Damrauer’s series New Math, which distills the world into simple and witty equations. Read more

I’ve yet to find out what they put in the water in Germany that generates such a consistently rich stream of good electronica. Carrying the torch at the moment is Hendrik Weber, aka Pantha du Prince, whose early 2007 release, This Bliss, landed on my doormat with a deep bass-kick and hasn’t left my iPod since. Read more

A former interior decorator known for her clever use of colour, Dyment’s jewelry designs are informed by the same colourful aesthetic. Sophisticated and contemporary, her collection, including rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces, combines gems and diamonds, each stone carefully selected and arranged by Dyment, and then set in polished eighteen-carat gold.
