Oh, the horror! Tales From Beyond The Pale are a series of frightening radio dramas in the classic style curated by Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid and written by a wide variety of writers. The story styles range from sci-fi to classics, but all of them are chilling and uncanny. Listen to these with the lights on. Season one is available now as a box set as well as downloadable from the website. We’re all holding our breath at the rumors of a second season.

I love rolling the dice and taking chances. I can’t tell you how many great and terrible things I’ve found on the interwebs by using Random Website. Not surprisingly, a lot of the things out there are pure crap, but some of it is quite interesting. The administrators do their best to keep porn and viruses out of the mix, but isn’t half the fun the danger of what might pop up next? I’m looking at Random Website right now! Michelle Obama … next; Christian affirmations … next; a Japanese blog … Wow, this never ends.

I first became aware of the photography of Wayne Belger when I saw one of his pinhole cameras made from a human skull on the interwebs. Each of his photographic series begins with making a camera specifically designed for that project. Skulls, blood, and a baby’s heart have all been used in the construction of his gorgeous cameras. I have a hard time buying gifts for my brother. But I knew I had found something special last year when I stepped into Billy Galaxy in Portland, Oregon. This small toy store is filled, floor to ceiling, with vintage toys and comic books from the 1980s. Do you need Star Wars figures or an original Atari still in the box? This is your store. After gazing about in nostalgic revery I finally decided on a Skeletor figure from the He-Man Masters of the Universe series. He still had the original weapons!

Sometimes I can’t think of things and sometimes I like to look at random occurrences as somehow prophetic. That’s why I love the Random Sentence Generator. It makes the kind of sentences one would imagine a random sentence generator would make but sometimes it is exactly what I need to hear. Imagine waking up, groggily walking to the computer, and reading ‘Across the orchestral theft grows an odd robot’. Aha! That’s the exact affirmation I needed for today’s staff meeting.

To promote the Northwest Film Center’s 38th Northwest Film Festival in Portland, Oregon, the folks at Mutt Design decided to equate the jurying of a film festival with the judging of babies and made this trailer. As an artist in any genre the act of presenting the fruits of your creativity to an often unsympathetic audience can feel like holding your ‘baby’ up to ridicule. Hilarious.

Dirty, sludgy, d-beat-loving hardcore band Trap Them from Salem, New Hampshire are about to release their third full-length, Darker Handcraft, on Prosthetic Records. I for one am super excited.
