I’m an Indonesian born, Connecticut-based artist. I paint my own world; a world where my personal feelings from beautiful moments give form to areas of the world itself. Those moments, buried inside me, become scattered over time as I continue my journey. Painting is the only way for me to preserve them so I can always feel connected to myself, undisturbed from the echoes of the external world while continuing my ongoing journey toward the future.

Preparing for a future trip, my memories brought me back to my last visit to this beautiful art museum on the hilltop of Campuhan, Ubud. The Blanco Museum exhibits around 300 of his expressionist-romantic paintings, mainly featuring Balinese female forms. His painting studio, kept as it was before his death in 1999, is also open to the public. It was a treat for me to view his works and studio while imagining how nice it would be to have a painting studio in that beautiful, natural environment.

I’m always drawn into a song by the melody first, something that sounds perfect to my feeling, and I rarely remember the lyrics. I heard this collaboration between Schiller and Anggun a few months back, and the melody has been staying with me since. Seeing the video, now the lyrics are floating around my head, too. The alluring voice and hypnotic tune, combined with the Paris views, just go so well together. And Anggun’s leather jacket is something I wish I had in my wardrobe.

Growing up, I was so used to having a prepared typical Indonesian breakfast, like Indomie (ramen), chicken porridge, or Lontong Sayur (chayote curry with rice cakes). But now I’ve been living here, I’m used to starting my day with toasted bagel with smoked salmon, something that I’m sure I will miss whenever I travel to Asia. Perhaps I should get something like this Yummy Bagel Pockets and leave it empty to avoid those naughty hungry travelers from nibbling my bagel.

I recently caught this short animation entitled Pada Suatu Ketika (Once Upon a Time), created by Indonesian LaKON Animasi. In it, bajaj (auto rickshaws) transform into a big Transformers-type robots and stomp amid Indonesian food stalls and traditional markets. It was so well done that the audience initially mistook it for the trailer for an upcoming LaKON film. It’s actually a study for their plan to launch animation education programs in Solo, Indonesia. I hope the positive confusion will be great motivation for achieving their initial goal of opening a school.

When I was little, I always thought that I would have a robot friend by now. It hasn’t happened, but I’m glad to see some progress in robotics development. You may have seen video of the female humanoid robot called Actroid-F, developed by Kokoro; now she has a brother. These robots will assist children with developmental disorders and talk with the elderly to prevent mental decline. Maybe one day, I will get to have a robot friend.

I came across this fairly new blog filled with advertising, posters, and business cards from movies and TV shows that don’t exist or other silly fictitious products that will be funny to imagine in real life, like Saul Goodman’s (Breaking Bad) attorney-at-law advertisement or Liz Lemon’s (30 Rock) Night Cheese cream. The blog describes itself as ‘a creative consortium dedicated to visionary interpretations of mythic media references’.
