Davis Ayer is a photographer based in Austin Texas whose Tumblr grabbed my attention. The saturated colours, and soft textures of hair and flowers make for very pretty images. I especially love his Politives and his use of hair flicks and double exposures to create a sense of movement.

Five bells on wheeled structures placed in a fountain make the musical sculpture, Wet Quintet. Years back when I met the artist, Dan Sternof Beyer, he was into tracing around street-side shadows with pavement chalk. This interactive piece is a result of his continued exploration of public art. I began this project with the somewhat creepy idea to photograph the people I meet during my travels – whilst they were asleep. Luckily, on waking, most people are simply bemused as I explain why I’ve photographed them unawares. The result is an ongoing series of sleeping portraits and personal stories called People I’ve Slept With.

A new source of cleverly told tales, both true and fictional, is Paper Radio, an Australian based audio journal. Ancient artifacts from the Wellcome Collection in London, have been recently documented by photographer Thom Atkinson.

This gives all of us who can’t physically visit a chance to view this stockpile of curiosities. What a treasure trove of the bizarre it is! Ancient torture devices, a witch hunter’s manual, preserved tattoos and mechanical vibrators all neatly photographed against a clean white background.
