Rafaël Rozendaal shares some conceptual commonalities with Aakash Nihalani, including a mouthful of a name, but his interactive microsites are a lot more colorful and immersive. A deep black hole. Geometry. Wind. Annoying cursor dot com (fair warning: this will piss you off).

Death is both an online and print journal asking writers and visual artists to address the topic however they wish, often abstractly and humorously. The idea here is that gothic kids and suicidal pessimists don’t have a corner on the topic, and the ground is rich with endless narrative possibilities. The splash page was designed by Luciano Foglia and, other than looking pretty and strange, it will lead you down a rabbit hole to a vibrant reward if you have the wherewithal to figure it out.

A lot of rappers and their trademark vocal punctuations. Like saying the same word over and over until it loses meaning, this experience will prove both disorienting and addictive. When I did the Master Cleanse diet a few years ago — the one where you consume nothing but lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper for ten days — I sat at work looking at pictures of food as if they were porn. Scanwiches would have gotten me hot and bothered like nothing else.

Grinning Cat is a beautiful electronic album from prodigious Japanese producer, Susumu Yokota. It borrows liberally from the melodic melancholy of classical music and features subtle drum loops throughout. We interviewed him about the artwork that he creates for each release. Read more

Now this is fun. This 3D watch dial actually jumps to life. The dial is a modern version of the 19th century art form of lithophanes: carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D, with an LED light and afterglow effect. Read more
