A true labour of love. Photographer Ari Verluis and profiler Elli Uyttenbroek took tons of photos around the world in order to pinpoint different fashion, sub-cultures and social groups.

For me, the whole project is kind of comforting. Every one of us is out there trying to fit in, or not fit in, but nobody is alone. Somewhere in the world there’s some like minded people that “get it” just like you do. I don’t need to meet my doppelgängers, but I sleep better knowing that they’re out there.

Multi-instrumentalist Kevin Micka executed an incredible concept. His project, Animal Hospital, is a one-man show where he performs elaborate and chilling soundscapes by playing an array of instruments then looping, layering and mixing everything by himself live.

He kind of ‘unplugged’ the whole thing and replaced the effects and pedals by assembling a 30 piece ensemble to recreate the layering and looping for him. On top of that he put the band in a large circle with the crowd in the middle. Wish I could have been there. The promo video alone gives me chills.

The amazing bike featured on the Escort album cover is the creation of the Future Shock Bike Crew out of Queens. You can hear this thing approach from MANY blocks away. It’s a BMX bike with a steel armature added that hold their huge handcrafted speakerboxes complete with top notch car stereo parts. It’s actually even louder than it looks, and there’s even a DVD player. When we got wind of this, we knew that we had to use it on our album cover. And I promise the album sounds as good as the cover.

In the late 1920s, Gordon Earl Adams, an engineer and scientist, attempted to build a time machine. The photos are the evidence of his labor and lunacy, and it’s hard not to have fun imagining Adams as a sort of fin-de-siecle Doc Brown. Found this in the latest Archive of Modern Conflict. Fittingly, the only other thing that comes up in Google under ‘Gordon Earl Adams’ is a design for a perpetual motion machine.
