In his third upcoming solo exhibit, entitled Warhol vs. Lichtenstein, he recreates a rad brawl between two of the most influential artists in pop culture. Classics will always be classics. Today, even a decade after his death, the work of Paco Gorospe, also known as the Picasso of the Philippines, still resonates a form of ‘artistreet’. Zean Cabangis is an artist from Manila. In his most recent 5-fold art set, which was originally intended for a group show entitled Build, he used acrylic and emulsion transfer on canvas to create a sense of uncertainty through open-ended ‘visual narratives’. Stirred by dissected memories and observations of human daily grind, he aims to construct vague feelings that make one dwell on how something starts or ends. Cabangis usually exhibits his works at Artinformal and Silverlens Galleries.

It’s all thanks to Igor Termenon, the analogue hero of a zine called Girls on Film. Unlike other photography zines, Girls on Film is solely dedicated for portraits shot using film cameras. Meanwhile, Boys on Film features film portraits of the opposite sex.

Ciudad is comprised of Mikey Amistoso, Justin Sunico, and Mitch Singson. Because of their catchy and giddy lyrics and tunes, they are often referred to as a bubblegum rock group or a nerd pop band. Fresh from their latest album, Follow the Leader, here comes an endearing music video for their single, There’s a Lonely Road to Sunday Night. The song was recently featured in an independent film by Marie Jamora, Ang Nawawala (What Isn’t There). The music video, directed by Ramon de Veyra, features the cast of the film. Ang Nawawala opens in selected theaters in Manila, starting September 12.

Terrific twins from Manila, Tracianne and Trasienne, also known as Your Evil Twin (An and En), are a tag team that’s made of gorgeous looks and gorgeous (film) photographs. Seeing their Polaroids sets me up into a twilight zone of melancholy, nostalgia, and all the lovely feelings in between. It’s like each photograph they take is an appreciation of memories that are bound to be immortalized and remembered – the analogue way.

If you’re a member of Lomography’s international community, you might have already seen these majestic, postcard-worthy images, shot using 35mm films. These were taken by Jorge Sato, a Lomographer based in São Paulo. He travels across the globe (from Iceland to London, to Tokyo, to Vienna, and beyond) to take photographs the analogue way. Not long after the recent cine-remake of the 1960s TV series, Dark Shadows, which starred the effervescent Johnny Depp, comes another grotesquely gorgeous stop-motion animation, Frankenweenie, directed by the bizarre Tim Burton. Frankenweenie was originally written by Burton in 1984 and is a parody of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. After 28 years, it will be shown in theaters in October. Before watching the full length, make sure you give its 30-minute version a view first. Check out young Sofia Coppola’s cameo in it, too.
