Haiku A Day: book by Erik Kraft

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in New Art on Saturday 5 October 2013

Back in 2011, I undertook two ‘a-day’ type projects. Each day I drew a picture, and each day I wrote a haiku. I then posted them to my Tumblr so if I stopped doing it, I would be embarrassed publicly (assuming anyone was reading). This year-long moment in time got a write up on Lost […]

A website devoted to, wait for it, Miley Cyrus’s tongue

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in Cool Websites on Tuesday 1 October 2013

I didn’t actually even see the VMA performance in question (people my age lose the ability to see MTV), but I sure saw the flurry of activity that came after it. It looked more to me like Miley Cyrus had some sort of sea slug trying to escape her mouth than anything else. I suppose […]

This Charming Charlie: a mash-up of Morrissey and Charlie Brown

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in Cool Websites on Friday 16 August 2013

I figured Charlie Brown was kind of emo, but I really should know he’s more old-school than that. While Chuck lacks the impressive coif of Morrissey, Moz’s lyrics fit into Peanuts comics all too well, as evidenced by This Charming Charlie. ‘I would go out tonight but I haven’t got a stitch to wear’ takes on a whole new meaning when you consider that Charlie Brown has worn the same shirt for his entire existence.

Baseball Card Vandals

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in New Trends on Wednesday 7 August 2013

I collected baseball cards briefly as a kid, because that was just what you did. I didn’t enjoy it at all. Had I been the one to think of Baseball Card Vandals, my childhood might have been turned around.

Cats puking to techno music

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in Video on Wednesday 3 July 2013

They say everyone’s a critic. Are the cats puking TO techno, or BECAUSE OF techno? We may never know, but I think techno isn’t so bad. I am firmly pro-cat though, and if they tell me techno is no good, I may have to believe them.

Nietzsche Family Circus

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in Cool Websites on Friday 17 May 2013

I don’t remember all that much about the Nietzsche that I’ve read. I do, however, remember the essence of The Family Circus, and I find it more nihilistic than anything old Friedrich wrote. If you swap out the grody familial schlock and put in some random Nietzsche quotes, it improves the comic considerably. I almost […]

Now you can type with a cat font

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in New Trends on Thursday 16 May 2013

Nekofont. The internet is powered by cats, so you might as well write in cats too. If you’re secretly 8, like me, you’ll want to test it out with swears. Then you can get on with your life. (Not really, because you are writing words with cats).

All The Machines: one of Grace Slick’s worst musical moments

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in New Music on Tuesday 14 May 2013

Grace Slick has been responsible for inflicting some absurdly terrible music on society. Sure, White Rabbit and Sombeody To Love are great, but are they great enough to let us forget We Built This City? I can even remember being on a plane when I was 12 and the in-flight music channel had the new […]

The Worst Room: a tumblr all about crappy NY housing

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in Cool Websites on Friday 10 May 2013

Thinking about moving to New York? The Worst Room provides the antidote to TV’s spacious and beautiful apartments that normal people can afford. I’d like to see Friends re-set in some of these.

Pictures of hipsters taking pictures of food

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in Cool Websites on Friday 19 April 2013

The Internet has jaded me. I’m not surprised that people take pictures of people who take pictures of food. I am certainly not surprised that there is a Tumblr for these pictures. I am absolutely not surprised that the creator of this Tumblr is calling “food photographers” ‘hipsters’. What I am surprised about is some […]

The next big meme: Cardboard Cat Art

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in New Trends on Thursday 18 April 2013

I’m not going to pretend that I wasn’t a big fan of the “breading” trend that swept internet cats recently, but I did find myself wondering where we could possibly go from there. We must not rest on our cat-posting laurels. Fortunately, I think there is now a step up. You get all the thrills […]

Actresses Without Teeth Tumblr

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in Cool Websites on Tuesday 2 April 2013

When I was a kid, I had a paper route. One of my customers had no teeth, and I only found this out when I made her laugh one day. Then it seemed that no matter how hard I tried not to, I would do something to make her laugh every time I had to […]

Members of 90s Teenbeat bands cover the Bumblebee Tuna song

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in Video on Saturday 30 March 2013

In the 90s, if it said Teenbeat on it, I would buy it (and usually did). So take two members of great 90s Teenbeat bands (Unrest and Blast Off Country Style) and get them covering jingles? I’m listening. After all, what is a jingle if not just a really short pop song? The Bumblebee Tuna […]

Walden Pond: The illustrated version is way better

Erik Kraft Reader Find

By Erik Kraft in New Illustration on Wednesday 27 March 2013

I take the commuter rail past Walden Pond every morning because I choose to commute deliberately (though commuting fills me with quiet desperation). So when I found out that one of my comic heroes had done some illustrated selections from Walden, I naturally had to read it on the train. I think John Porcellino was […]
